Scientology: Complete List of Books and Materials

For ease of reference the categories of books, films and recorded lectures are noted in the listings by symbols.

One of the most acclaimed and widely read authors of all time, L. Ron Hubbard has sold in excess of 100 million published works throughout the world.

The books listed here include his nonfiction works on Dianetics and Scientology only.

Each entry lists title, publication date, original publisher and where first published. Where the book is a compilation of L. Ron Hubbard's works, this is also noted.

Films are also included among Scientology materials. After doing extensive research on photography and film, Mr. Hubbard began producing films that would make it easier for students to learn the technology by actually showing them how to do it on film. As well as being valuable training tools, these films help to preserve the Scientology technology.

A number of films were made between 1958 and 1970. These are noted as they appeared.

In 1978, Golden Era Productions began producing a large number of new films, both technical training films for use on Scientology courses and films dealing with specific problems and concerns of society, intended for a general audience. Some of these films are still being produced-the list in this book covers only those released at the time of publication.

Each film is included by title and date of release.

From 1948 on, L. Ron Hubbard delivered more than 3,000 public lectures on every aspect of the mind and life.

There are about 25,000,000 words on tape in archives which provide the consecutive path of discovery of Scientology technology. These lectures cover both Scientology philosophy and the technology of Scientology administration and auditing.

Since 1977, many of Mr. Hubbard's recorded lectures have been released to the public, as single cassettes or as cassette tape series. In order to ensure the highest quality sound on these cassettes, most have been produced using Clearsound state-of-the-art sound-reproduction technology. The project of reproducing these lectures on cassette is still in progress, and new cassettes and cassette series are being released on a regular basis to make the wealth of Dianetics and Scientology technology on tape easily accessible.

In addition to his books, Mr. Hubbard continuously released bulletins detailing technical breakthroughs as they occurred. Beginning with Dianetic Auditor's Bulletins (DABs) in 1950, and later in Professional Auditor's Bulletins (PABs), Hubbard Communications Office Bulletins (HCOBs) and other technical issues, he recorded and issued valuable advice and data on new discoveries.

Administrative breakthroughs were likewise issued immediately as policy letters for staff and public use. Various types of issues cover the administrative technology of Scientology organizations, the earliest of these being policy letters written for specific organizations such as the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International (HASI PLs) and the Founding Church of Washington, DC (FC PLs). Mr. Hubbard also recorded policy in several other forms, including LRH Executive Directives (LRH EDs), Secretarial Executive Directives (Sec EDs) and, most often, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letters (HCO PLs).

Magazine articles provided another medium for the communication of Dianetics and Scientology technology. Magazines for Scientologists, such as the Journal of Scientology (JOS), Certainty, Ability, and The Auditor, often carried articles by Mr. Hubbard, as did the Freedom magazine put out by the Church.

Each of these individual writings has been included in the following list, along with the type of issue, the date of its original publication and date of any revision.

Each of the insignia of Dianetics and Scientology is shown and described for the year it was adopted. The official insignia only are listed.

There have been a number of models of the E-Meter throughout the years of its development. Each meter is listed with its year of release.

Several special categories of materials are covered, including charts and tools for auditors. Mr. Hubbard also composed music for several films, and their sound tracks are available on cassette.

Additionally, hundreds of course packs are available which accompany Dianetics and Scientology courses. These are not listed separately in this section, but each course has its own pack.

Translations of books, tapes, films and course packs are available in many languages. The translations listed are those available at time of publication. Many more translated materials and new languages are being added on a continuing basis.
